Orthodontic arches are fixed in the groove of the bracket and are the main source of the applied effort necessary to correct the bite. Since the arch has the shape of the correct row of teeth, its installation in the groove of the bracket gives the teeth the correct position too. The degree of applied effort depends on the size and material from which the arcs are made, which must be changed during the treatment. For example, thin arcs with a round cross-section are used at the beginning of treatment, and arcs with a rectangular cross-section are used at the final stages of treatment, since they completely fill the groove and create more pressure.
